Conservation Authority Issues Permit for Construction of Strandherd Armstrong Bridge

bridge.jpgI am pleased to report that the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority has issued a permit for the construction of the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge.

This is an important regulatory milestone in the progress of the bridge.  The Strandherd Armstrong Bridge will be an important connection in South Ottawa and has been a priority for me over the past four years.

The construction tendering process is underway and it is anticipated that construction will begin in the late spring of 2010.

The Bridge will bring many benefits to the communities of Barrhaven and Riverside South, including the improvement of local transit and transportation, and will support the new RCMP Headquarters in South Nepean.

The Strandherd Armstrong Bridge Project funding was approved in the City of Ottawa’s 2010 Capital Budget. The Federal and Provincial governments are each funding a third of the project under the Building Canada Fund as announced in June 2009.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is responsible for the regulatory oversight of the Rideau River under the Conservation Authorities Act.
