Construction update on the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge
I would like to provide the community with the following update received from the Project Manager of the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge construction project.
"Within the next week or so bridge foundation installation at the Strandherd-Armstrong bridge site will commence on the east side of the river. These operations will include vibrating 1.8 m diameter steel tubes (caissons) through the soil to bedrock. Once the caissons have reached bedrock, they will be cleaned out of native soil and filled with concrete. The operation is expected to last approximately 2-3 months on the east side of the river and, when complete, a similar operation will take place on the west side of the river.
Given the soil type at the site we do not expect that vibrations will exceed tolerable levels or cause damage to nearby building foundations. However, the vibrating in and cleaning of the caissons will increase background sound levels in the area."
