Local Bridge steel assembly will be Made in Canada
Ottawa – June 14, 2010 – As part of the contract awarded to ConCreate USL for the construction of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge, the sub-contract for the fabrication of the bridge steelwork has been awarded to a Canadian company located in Nova Scotia. Cherubini Group of Companies of Dartmouth has received the contract worth $15-20M for the construction of the steel structure of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge.
The steel structure will be fabricated in Dartmouth and then shipped to Ottawa. Among their previous projects, the Cherubini Group of Companies was the steel structure provider for the Confederation Bridge in Prince Edward Island, which required 5000 tonnes of steel to complete.
"It is fitting that, as the nation's capital, the steel structure of the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge will be Made in Canada," said Councillor Steve Desroches.
"We’re very excited about this project and are pleased to work with a quality Canadian Structural Steel company such as Cherubini" said Gordon Tozer, President of ConCreate USL Limited. "We look forward to our partnership on this important project in our Nation’s capital."
ConCreate USL Limited has numerous bridge construction and bridge rehabilitations listed on its impressive portfolio, including the Michael Sheflin Bridge Rehabilitation right here in Ottawa. In addition to infrastructure items, they were also the contactor who built the Whistler Sliding Centre Bobsleigh/Luge Track for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Construction on the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge will begin this summer with completion anticipated for early 2012.
