2010 Budget contains City’s One Third Share of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge

I have been working hard to secure funding for the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge and I am pleased to report that the City’s one-third share of the funding is within the 2010 draft budget. With all the approvals coming into place, the federal financial documents being reviewed, and provincial financial agreement on its way, construction is on track to begin in the spring of 2010. As you know, this is an important project for me and I will continue to help advance the project.

The City of Ottawa is undertaking ward consultations in order to hear what residents think of the draft 2010 Budget. For residents of Gloucester-South Nepean, I am hosting a public consultation at the Nepean Sportsplex, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue on Wednesday, January 20th from 7pm to 9pm.   I invite you to come out next Wednesday to provide your feedback on the budget.

There are a number of items proposed in the draft budget that impact our ward. They include:

  • The City’s one third share of the Strandherd Armstrong Bridge
  • Completion of Chapman Mills Drive from Strandherd Drive to Woodroffe Ave.
  • Phase 1 (Design) of new traffic controls for the intersection of Crestway Drive and Leikin Drive.
  • Furniture, Equipment and Renovations, including replacement of windows and part of the roof, for the Carleton Lodge, Long term care facility.
  • Renovations and repairs at the Walter Baker Sports Centre including partial roof replacement and further renovations. (Ward 3)
  • Planning, Environmental assessment studies, and Implementation work of the Woodroffe South – Strandherd to Earl Armstrong transit priority network (along future bridge)
  • Crack sealing in asphalt concrete pavements to prevent further erosion. Can extend the life of pavement by three to five year. (City Wide)
  • Widening of Greenbank Road from two to four lanes between Malvern Drive and Strandherd Drive (Ward 3)

I hope you will be able to come out and participate directly in the budget process. You can preview further budget information online at www.ottawa.ca/budget2010.

If you are unable to attend the consultations, there are a number of other ways that you can participate in the consultation process.
