Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge’s Western Footing
I would like to update residents on the continued progress of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge.
On Thursday, April 14, 2011, the City of Ottawa’s contractor for the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge poured approximately 1400 cubic metres of concrete to form the western footing of the $48 million city bridge spanning the Rideau River. The work to cast the west footing of the bridge, entailed casting a large quantity of concrete in a continuous pour. This work involved the hauling, pumping and placement of concrete and required overnight activity to get the continuous pour completed. The cumulative load weighed approximately 3000 tonnes.
I am pleased to see the bridge continue to take its shape. We will begin to see more prominent development of the bridge over the coming months. I know this project is a priority for residents and I am pleased to see progress being made.
