Earth Day Tree Planting Festival - Saturday, May 7th 2011
Thursday, 05 May 2011
I am pleased to once again partner with Earth Day Canada® to plant the next instalment of trees along the stormwater ponds in Riverside South. This year the planting will take place along the stormwater ponds behind Marble Canyon Drive.
The City's Forestry Department has confirmed that the planting of these trees will not be in conflict with the current Outdoor Water Ban as the plantings are local varieties that are meant to naturalize the area. They are not watered by city crews but left to be nurtured by mother nature.
The Riverside South Planting Project is a community-building event for all ages that includes a number of additional attractions such as continental breakfast, games, crafts, raffles and a variety of displays.
The event will begin at 9:00a.m. and ends when planting is completed.
The planting will take place along the Storm Water Management Ponds behind Marble Canyon Drive.
Tips to ensure a pleasant day:
* Bring a rounded shovel (if you already have one)
* Dress in layers
* Ensure you have rain boots and coat
