Rink of Dreams Opening Weekend Celebrations

Rink of Dreams Opening Weekend Celebrations

The Rink of Dreams was officially opened on Wednesday, January 25th and is already a busy location in downtown Ottawa.

This weekend will be a flurry of activity for its opening weekend as the City of Ottawa teams up with Hockey Canada, the Sens Foundation, Energizer and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for two large events.

The Dreams Come True event, hosted by Hockey Canada, the Ottawa Senators and the Sens Foundation, and the Energizer Power Hour, led by Energizer, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, and the Sens Foundation, will both take place on and around the newly installed ice surface. Even with mild temperatures forecast for this coming weekend, the refrigerated outdoor skating rink is expected to maintain an ice quality that will allow these events to take place.

Details of the two events are as follows:

Hockey Canada’s Dreams Come True
Date:          Saturday, January 28, 2012
Time:          10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Location:    Rink of Dreams, Marion Dewar Plaza at Ottawa City Hall
What:         Dreams Come True is a Hockey Canada initiative that will provide about 20 girls from the I Love to Skate program with an opportunity to participate in an introductory set of drills by members of Canada’s National Women’s hockey team and instructors from Hockey Canada. This event will also promote the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Ottawa. The girls will also be enrolled in a local hockey association program in the fall offered by Hockey Canada.

Energizer Power Hour
Date:          Sunday, January 29, 2012
Time:          10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Location:    Rink of Dreams, Marion Dewar Plaza at Ottawa City Hall and Cartier Square Drill Hall
What:         About 100 children, ages six to 13, from the I Love to Skate program will join several NHL mascots for a skate on the newly-opened Rink of Dreams.

I invite residents to come out and watch these great events and maybe take a skate yourself on Ottawa's newest landmark.

If you are travelling to All Star Weekend events this weekend, I would recommend using OC Transpo as your means of transportation.  Taking transit is the convenient, stress-free ticket for hockey fans to get to the NHL® All-Star Weekend festivities!
