Strong local business interest in upcoming Light Rail Trade Show
Ottawa, February 6th, 2012 – Deputy Mayor Steve Desroches is pleased with the strong level of interest in the upcoming Ottawa Light Rail Trade Show (OLRT).
“We’ve known all along that the OLRT Project was going to be a major economic benefit for the City and the City of Ottawa has made economic development a top priority,” said Councillor Desroches.
On September 28, 2011, Council passed a motion directing staff to organize a trade show to bring together Ottawa area companies with the three consortia that have been short listed to compete for the OLRT Project contract. In response, the City has partnered with the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce to deliver the OLRT Project Trade Show on February 9th at the new CE Centre on Uplands Drive.
The OLRT Project will be the largest infrastructure project in the City’s history, generating 20,000 person years of employment and more than $2.1 billion in economic activity during construction alone. Already more than 200 representatives from local area businesses have registered to attend the Trade Show looking for ways to participate in this exciting economic opportunity. The three construction consortia that have been short listed will have a strong contingent of 80 representatives to connect with local business leaders.
“The event is a great opportunity to encourage business networking, generate business leads, and gain insight to the goods and services needed to build Ottawa’s largest infrastructure project,” said Councillor Desroches.
