Cresthaven Drive and Barnstone Drive Intersection Modification
Recently, I met with city officials to discuss the future of the intersection of Barnstone Drive and Cresthaven Drive. As you may know, this area has had a rapid growth rate with the recent completion of the Stonefield Flats development as well as future development to occur along the Strandherd Drive corridor at Cresthaven Drive. In light of the future development, the city has reviewed how this intersection should operate once the area is fully completed. As such, they have reviewed whether the application of traffic signals, a four way stop, or the construction of a roundabout would better suit the community in this location.
It has been determined that the safest and most efficient intersection controls for this particular location would be a roundabout due to the angles of the roadway, the close proximity to the Strandherd Drive signalized intersection and the close proximity to Prince of Wales Drive. Roundabouts provide traffic calming measures by reducing vehicular speeds entering and traveling through the roundabout. They also provide for smooth traffic flow and safer intersection crossings.
City officials will be presenting these plans to the community at the Barrhaven Spring Open House on April 17th at the Walter Baker Sports Centre.
In the meanwhile, I welcome your feedback on this proposed intersection modification. The modifications would be undertaken by the developer once development of the site at the northwest corner of the intersection is approved and construction begins. Currently this application is on hold.
