Every year, over 225,000 volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to make Ottawa a better place to live. Volunteers have a direct impact on many aspects of our day-to-day life, including health, heritage, education, social services, arts and culture, sports and recreation, protective services, literacy services and the environment.
Let us know about that special person in your community whose volunteer efforts should be recognized. You can tell us about that special person by completing a nomination form online at ottawa.ca/volunteering or by picking up a brochure at one of the City’s Client Service Centres, branches of the Ottawa Public Library or community centres. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 26, 2010 at 4 p.m.
If you prefer, send your nominee information to my office and I will submit your nomination on your behalf.
Any youth, adult, senior or group who willingly volunteers their time and effort to benefit others in the city of Ottawa is eligible for an award. Please take a few minutes to nominate that special volunteer who coaches children, helps others or contributes their time and talent to an organization in our community. Take time to stop and say thank you to that volunteer who has touched your life.
Awards will be presented in the following categories: Citizen of the Year (Youth, Adult and Senior); the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching in Amateur Sport; Arts and Culture; Recreation and Sports; Education; Environment; Health; Heritage; Humanitarianism; Rural/Agriculture; and Community Activism (Youth, Adult, Senior and Group).

The Mayor, my colleagues on City Council and I will present the 2010 Civic Appreciation Awards at a ceremony in May. The awards are given to recipients who are selected from nominations sent in by residents. So I ask you to take a moment and let us know about that special volunteer in your community!
