transecure.jpgOttawa – June 1, 2010 – Councillor Steve Desroches, along with city staff and OC Transpo officials, honoured OC Transpo employees at the 2009 Transecure Employee of the Year Ceremony on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010. The Transecure Awards are held to recognize transit employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to look out for the safety of the community.

Smog advisory due to wood smoke in effect

Ottawa – The Medical Officer of Health is issuing a smog advisory on Monday May 31, 2010 based on information from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. Ottawa is experiencing poor air quality today due to smoke that is being attributed to several forest fires in the province of Quebec.

Congratulations to the Stonebridge Community Association for another successful garage sale this year. It was my honour to deliver coffee to all the vendors and shoppers as they participated in this annual event. Bill Armitage of the Stonebridge Community Association joined me as we drove around Stonebridge providing coffee to the residents.

I would like to thank Jack May Pontiac Buick for the use of their Shuttle and also Rob Lyon, Manager of the Starbucks location at Woodroffe and Strandherd Drive, for providing the coffee and supplies.

More billboards could soon dot the city’s skyline as a revenue generator for City Hall.

Nineteen new billboards on city-owned property could rake in up to $1.7 million over five years. City land would be leased to advertising companies for the signs, which would mostly be located in industrial and commercial areas.
